Rice to Water Cooking Calculator

Quickly calculate the amount of water to cook dry rice in. Be that in grams, ounces or US cups.

Rice to Water Formula

This amount of water is calculated by multiplying the weight of the rice by the ratio, in the default case this is 2.5 times, to get the amount of water needed.

It becomes a bit more complicated by the other units, most noteably when using cups - which are a measure of volume not weight - however a value of 190 grams per US cup looks to be an accepted value.

Water (ml) = Weight (grams) × Ratio

Examples

For 180 grams of rice and a ratio of 2.5 the water needed is 450 milliliters.

450 ml = 180 g × 2.5

For 2 US cups of rice and a ratio of 2.5 the water needed is 4 US cups (950ml) calculate by weight.

4 US cups (950 ml) = 2 US cups × 190 g per cup × 2.5
